Concerned Africans Forum Speaks Out On Killing of Al Jazeera Journalist

By Umamah Bakharia

The Concerned Africans Forum or CAF has spoken out against the shameful assassination of Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh by Israeli forces in Jenin in the occupied West Bank in Palestine.

CAF says the sadistic forms of violence meted out against mourners, are a traumatic reminder for South Africans of the horrors of apartheid brutality.

Speaking to Radio Islam International, CAF’s Dr Essop Pahad says the killing of Abu Akleh is reminiscing of the way the apartheid security forces responded to similar cases in South Africa.

“We must intensify our solidarity with the Palestinian people,” says Dr Pahad.

He adds: “The ANC should be in the forefront of mobilising against Isreal.”

Israeli forces have argued that Abu Akleh’s death was an accident even though she the deceased journalist was wearing a blue flak jacket written ‘PRESS’. Responding to this, Dr Pahad from CAF says, “whoever opened fire did it deliberately aiming to kill her, there is no mistake to that.”
