Cyril Ramaphosa’s Love for Gadgets & Technology

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 20-02-2018

Newly elected President Cyril Rampahosa loves technology and uses a number of gadgets to efficiently perform his tasks as Commander in Chief of South Africa.

Ramapahosa was elected un-opposed as president of the country on the 15th February after Jacob Zuma resigned.

Ramaphosa’s love for technology is no secret.

It’s understood he uses an Apple MacBook to write his speeches and then read them off his iPad, shying away from the thick sheaf of speech notes in large print that used to be favoured by his predecessor Jacob Zuma.

In December 2017 Ramaphosa used an Apple iPad during his acceptance speech after being elected president of the African National Congress (ANC) at the its 54th elective conference in Nasrec, Johannesburg.

On 18 February 2018, three days after being elected as President of South Africa, Ramaphosa received calls at his official residence in Cape Town, where he conducted discussions with various world leaders.

And the device he was using? Apple’s new iPhone X.

Ramaphosa’s spokesperson Tyrone Seale says while he can’t vouch for the president’s choice of brand, he is attracted to technology.

“He believes that it makes all of us more efficient and productive and so he does enjoy his gadgets.”

Seale says Ramaphosa is also very interested in how the 4th industrial revelation can transform the South African economy.

“By embracing technology he’s demonstrating to South Africans that there are new and different ways for us to be and to conduct our lives and to build our economy.”

During his State of the Nation Address (Sona) on Friday, Ramaphosa said South Africa’s prosperity depends on the country’s ability to take full advantage of rapid technological change.
