I moved to a suburb called Beyers park 5 years ago,it’s in Boksburg and alhamdulillah I had the opportunity of working for the maktab for four years ,which operates from the musallah.
At the moment the masjid for this area is being built Insha Allah aaamen.
When I started working at the maktab four years ago at the musaallah I had the honour and privilege of meeting our esteemed muezzin, his soft and absolute humble demeanor won the hearts of many in our community.
There is not a single person who hasn’t met him and doesn’t instantly take a liking to our Muezzin.
And then I heard his athaan!it transported me into a different era.
Whats so unique and special of our Muezzin is that he has different ways and tones in which he calls out the Athaan and my firm personal favourite is his Fajr Athaan, his voice is hauntingly melodic and I felt I was being transported back in the time of our prophet.
Our Muezzin is young and lives with his family on the property,he is well known and can be seen riding his bicycle and always stopping to see if anyone is need of assistance and forever ready to avail himself to the plight of others.
Every Friday due to large number of people attending jumuah prayers our muezzin can be seen in his crisp white kurta and sarf assisting and directing traffic.
After madrasah hours especially on Friday, since it being a busy day he assists in traffic control and children finding their way to the correct cars.
What sets our muezzin apart is the fact that he is ever willing to help, the kids love and revere him due to his soft spoken, calm and peaceful demeanor.
He is known to all as Muezzin Amin and whenever I see him for some reason I am reminded of the hadeeth, where on the day of qiyamat the muezzin will have the tallest neck due to the honour that Allah has bestowed on them.
I feel our muezzin with his good character portrays this honour well as he is liked by one and all.
Whenever assistance was needed for any programme or function that took place in the musallah our Muezzin was present, not only present but first on scene with setting up etc.
There were few incidents that stuck out to me that show cased his nurturing and exceptional character.
Once of the students parents were a few minutes late in picking up the student and the student started crying our Muezzin was there telling him he’d wait with him and not to cry nor worry and he calmed the student just by talking to him and being with him.
On Saturdays there’s a class that takes place for females on the musallah premises, one morning we reached there earlier and the doors were closed, that day the muezzin was extremely sick but he still came out to open and apologised profusely even though the fault was not his.
Once I had given my class one students an assignment in the form of,who would they like to be when they grow up and of of my students said such a profound thing,he wanted to be a muezzin so I thought perhaps he chose Hazrat Bilal (R.A) since we do this in Aqaaid, however his answer had me speechless he said he wanted to render the Athaan like Muezzin Amin and that he had heard the muezzin reciting quraan and he wanted to be exactly like him,on further enquiry the student said he loved how softly the muezzin would speak to them even when they would to something naughty like run on the sand hills.
And I’m a firm believer that children are the best character judges of people but الله knows best
Lastly just recently the musallah had a competition for students to render the Athaan and Masha Allah they out did themselves.
I believe truly that due to his kindheartedness and beautiful character he has won the kids over and they aspire to be like him
These incidents highlighted to me his absolute phenomenal character traits of punctuality, patience, kindheartedness, nurturing nature, respect and humbleness which makes me believe he deserves to go for Umrah Insha Allah.
