the call to salaah is always the sweetest sound to my ear after a long hard day. With our muazzins voice ringing in our ears 5 times a day ,is like a balm to our wounds.

If our muazzin was not as punctual in giving azan our salaah times would be upset. He was born in Malawi, has performed Haj Alhamdulilah. Sheikh Khalifa is our dedicated muazzin for the last 12 years to our beloved musjid of isipingo hills. His punctuality at the time of each Salah is what drives the tired bodies to the musjids.

At Fajr when most young boys are so difficult to get out of bed ,his soothing voice calls into your dreams. Father to 13 children and husband to 2 wives who all live together under his loving care. He teaches hifz to part time students ,in the musjid with love for Quran. His love for Quran goes further when he translates the daily Quran tafseer into Malawian language.

Last year his son idrees completed hifz in dawatul haq institute in umzinto. He also has a passion to feed the foreign people in Ramadan. Also assists those that are imprisoned.  When Nabi salallahu a’lai hi wasallam made hijrah to madinah munawwarah he constructed the musjid. After completing the musjid ,he consulted the sahaba ra regarding the method to be adopted to call the people to Salah.it was the burning desire within the heart of rasulullah salallahu a’lai hiwasallam that all the sahaba congregate and perform their salaah in the musjid. Rasulullah salallahu a’lai hi wasallam  was neither pleased with the sahaba performing their Salah in the musjid at different times nor in their homes.

The sahaba presented various suggestions in regard to how people could be called for salaah. Some of the suggestions of the sahaba rawere that a fire be lit or a flag be hoisted . Other suggestions were the horn or naqoos( 2 sticks) be struck.

Rasulullah salallahu a’lai wasallam was not pleased with these suggestions. Rasulullah salallahu a’lai wasallam did not want his ummah to emulate the Christians,jews and kufaar in aspects of their deen or worldly life. If the Muslims were to adopt these methods it would result in them resembling the disbelievers in their deen. Further it would lead to confusion as the kufaar were calling their people to their places of worship at other times in these same methods.

No conclusions was decided in that gathering and the matter was left unresolved. Prior to them dispersing from the gathering of Rasulullah salallahu a’lai wasallam hazrat Umar ra suggested that since no method was decided for temporary perhaps a person could be appointed to go around calling the people for salaah as the time sets.

Nabi salallahu a’lai wasallam accepted the suggestion of hazrat Umar ra and appointed hazrat Bilal  ra to carry out this task. Hence @ the time of salaah hazrat Bilal ra would go around informing the people the jmt in the musjid was about to commence.

The heart of every sahabi ra was filled with the concern of hazrat Rasulullah salallahu a’lai wasallam in regard to how the people should be called to perform Salah together in the musjid.

Never the less it was not long after this one night hazrat Abdullah- bin zaid ra was shown a dream by Allah rabaruk wata’ ala . In the dream he saw an angel in the form of a human being who was dressed in two garments of green and was carrying a naqoos.

He asked the angel ” oh servant of Allah are you selling the naqoos? The angel replied what do you wish to do with it ? Hazrat Abdullah- bin zaid ra answered ‘ I will use it to call people for salah” . The angel then said ‘ should I not show you a method for calling people to Salah which is better than striking this naqoos? ” hazrat Abdullah- bin – zaid ra asked what method is better? The angel replied ‘ you will call out the azan after which the angel thought him the words of the azan.

When he awoke the next day he went to rasulullah salallahu a’lai wasallam and related the dream.on hearing the dream hazrat Nabi salallahu a’lai wasallam mentioned, certainly it is a true dream.”

Stand outside beside Bilal  ra and inform him of the words of the azan that you were taught in your dream.,so that he may call out the azan. Allow Bilal ra as his voice is loud.

When the azan was called hazrat Umar ra hastily took his shawl and rushed to rasulullah salallahu a’lai wasallam and respectfully exclaimed ‘ oh rasulullah salallahu a’lai wasallam I take an oath who has appointed you as his messenger I was shown the same dream in which I was shown the same words. When Nabi salallahu a’lai wasallam hear this he became pleased and said this has been further confirmed as a true dream from the side of Allah. It has been narrated that more than 10 sahabah ra had been shown the same dreaming which they were taught the words of the azan.

Hazrat muaawiya ra reports I heard Nabi salallahu a’lai wasallam say verily the muazzins will have the longest necks on the day of qiyamah. ‘ long necks ” means is that they will occupy distinct positions of honor.

The muazzins will be on mountains of musk on the day of qiyamah.

Every creation whether jinn ,human or any other creation that hears the voice of the muazzin calling the azan will testify on his behalf on the day of qiyamah! The end.
