While many were hoping it would be a permanent shutdown, US President Donald Trumps Twitter handle was briefly unplugged without warning when an employee of the social media company deactivated the @realdonaldtrump account.
The account went down for 11 minutes yesterday.
Twitter says it is now investigating the matter and taking steps to avoid it happening again.
“Through our investigation we have learned that this was done by a Twitter customer support employee who did this on the employee’s last day. We are conducting a full internal review.”
Trump brushed off the outage in a new tweet on Friday, suggesting it showed the impact he was having.
He tweeted: “My Twitter account was taken down by a rogue employee. I guess the word must be finally getting-out and having an impact.”
Trump, who has more then 41 million followers, has frequently caused controversy with his tweets.
