Phase 5 – Transformation: Becoming Who Allah Loves
Du’a from a Sincere Heart
Respected listeners, today is the 27th of Ramadhan. And that means last night was an odd night – the 27th of Ramadhan. The night that many scholars believe is a likely candidate for Laylatul Qadr. The night when the angels descended. The night when du’as were answered.
You stood in prayer last night. You raised your hands. You poured out your heart. And now, as the sun rises on this new day, a question lingers in every soul: Was my du’a accepted? Did I catch the night?
This morning, as we continue our journey of heart renewal, we speak about Du’a from a Sincere Heart — and what happens after we have asked.
The Night Has Passed, But the Door Remains Open
First, let us establish a critical truth: Laylatul Qadr may have passed, that is only in the knowledge of Allah, but the door of du’a is still wide open. Allah did not close it after the night ended. He is still al-Samī’ — the All-Hearing. He is still al-Mujīb — the Responder.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“إِنَّ رَبَّكُمْ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَىٰ حَيِيٌّ كَرِيمٌ، يَسْتَحْيِي مِنْ عَبْدِهِ إِذَا رَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ إِلَيْهِ أَنْ يَرُدَّهُمَا صِفْرًا“
“Indeed, your Lord is Alive, Generous. He is shy to turn away empty the hands of His servant when he raises them to Him.” (Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi)
This is not just for Laylatul Qadr. This is for every moment. Every du’a. Every sincere raising of hands. He is shy to send you away empty. Keep asking.
Did I Catch the Night?
This question troubles many hearts today. Let me give you comfort from the words of the Prophet ﷺ himself.
When the Companions RA asked about Laylatul Qadr, the Prophet ﷺ said:
“تَحَرَّوْا لَيْلَةَ الْقَدْرِ فِي الْوِتْرِ مِنَ الْعَشْرِ الْأَوَاخِرِ“
“Seek Laylatul Qadr in the odd nights of the last ten.” (Bukhari & Muslim)
He did not say “find it.” He said “seek it.” The seeking itself is part of the worship. The effort itself is recorded. The nights you stood in prayer, even if not Laylatul Qadr, are still written in your book. Allah does not waste the effort of the believers.
And here is the beautiful truth: If you stood in prayer last night with faith and hope, seeking Laylatul Qadr, then you have already received a reward. The Prophet ﷺ said:
“مَنْ قَامَ لَيْلَةَ الْقَدْرِ إِيمَانًا وَاحْتِسَابًا غُفِرَ لَهُ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِهِ“
“Whoever stands in prayer on the Night of Decree with faith and hope of reward, his previous sins will be forgiven.” (Bukhari & Muslim)
If you stood with faith and hope, trusting that this could be the night and seeking Allah’s reward, then the promise applies to you. Whether it was actually the night or not, your intention and effort have been seen. And Allah is the Most Generous.
The Sincere Heart Keeps Asking
A renewed heart does not stop asking after one night. A renewed heart understands that du’a is not a transaction but a relationship. It is the ongoing conversation between the servant and his Lord.
The sincere heart:
Asks with humility. It knows it deserves nothing and begs for everything.
Asks with persistence. It does not give up if the answer is delayed. It knows that delay is not denial.
Asks with certainty. It trusts that Allah hears and will respond in the way that is best.
Asks with presence. It is not distracted, not rushed, not mechanical.
What to Ask for Now?
Even though Laylatul Qadr may have passed, your need for Allah has not. Keep asking for:
- Acceptance of all your efforts this month. Ask Allah to receive your fasts, your prayers, your charity, your du’as.
- Forgiveness for any shortcomings in your worship. Ask Him to cover what you did poorly with His mercy.
- Steadfastness after Ramadhan. The real test begins after Eid. Ask Him to keep your heart firm.
- A renewed heart that remains soft, connected, and alive all year long.
- A qalb saleem — a sound heart that will benefit you on the Day you meet Him.
Hope, Not Certainty
You may never know if you caught Laylatul Qadr. The Prophet ﷺ himself did not know with certainty which night it was. But what matters is not certainty; it is hope. It is standing before Allah with a heart full of hope that He accepted, that He forgave, that He renewed.
The great scholar Ibn Rajab R said:
“The believers are between fear and hope. They fear that their deeds may not be accepted, and they hope that Allah will accept them. This is the state of the righteous.”
If you are hoping today, that hope itself is a sign of faith.
Continue Striving
The remaining nights of Ramadhan are still blessed. Do not stop now. The odd nights continue — 29th night is still ahead. Keep praying. Keep asking. Keep seeking.
A renewed heart does not rest. It keeps turning to its Lord, in every night, in every moment.
“وَإِذَا سَأَلَكَ عِبَادِي عَنِّي فَإِنِّي قَرِيبٌ ۖ أُجِيبُ دَعْوَةَ الدَّاعِ إِذَا دَعَانِ“
“And when My servants ask you concerning Me, indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me.” (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:186)
He is near. He is listening. He is responding. Call upon Him with a sincere heart, today and every day.
May Allah accept our du’as, renew our hearts, and grant us steadfastness until we meet Him. Ameen.
