Duaa in the Holy Quraan – Part 2

Duaa has a kind of a magnetic force in a way where it draws the person engaging in Duaa towards Allah, with such a closeness and bond that it increases him in faith, it gives hope and relief to the one who is distressed and saves the supplicant from despair and isolation. Throughout the Holy Quraan, Allah encourages the believer to call on Him, He asks us to lay our dreams, hopes, fears and uncertainties before Him and to be sure that He hears every word.

When my servants question you about Me, tell them that I am very close to them. I answer the prayer of every supplicant when he calls Me; therefore, they should respond to Me and put their trust in Me, so that they may be rightly guided. [Al Baqarah 2: 186]

This is surely one of those verses of the Quraan that gives the Believer the utmost amount of hope. So, if a person tells you that look I may be far away but I will try and help, then this comforts you but you will feel worried and concerned that the person is far and you feel uncertain whether they will be able to be at your side in the time of need, but here Allah the Almighty is saying don’t worry, I am very close by, I am right at your side, all the time!

And then to grant us even greater contentment, Allah reassures us saying, “I answer the prayer of every supplicant when he calls Me.” The fact that Allah left this open, “every supplicant,” gives hope to even the greatest and biggest of sinners, that all I need to do is just ask from Him and He is prepared to listen to me. Allah wants us, His bondsmen, to turn to him regularly and to place our needs before Him alone and that is why Allah becomes angry with the servant who doesn’t task from Him.

In another verse Allah says,

And your Rabb says: “Call on Me, I will answer your prayers. Surely those who are too arrogant to worship Me shall soon enter hell in humiliation.”

Allah, who is full of mercy and compassion, is actually sending out a very stern warning to those who don’t call on Him.

It is thus imperative for every believer to never lose hope in the mercy of Allah and to always turn to Him for forgiveness.
