Synopsis:

This compilation is part (9) of a series of Arba’een or 40 ahadith on a specific topic, in this case marriage. It has been narrated that Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) said that whoever collects/memorises 40 Hadith for his Ummah, will be resurrected among the scholars, on whom his (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) intercession is promised. Although this Hadith is weak, innumerable scholars of Islam from the 2nd century beyond have collected 40 Ahadith on various religious issues. The most famous collection of 40 Ahadith of all time is the one collected by Imam An-Nawawi who died in 676 H. The collection is known as Al-Arbaeen An-Nawawi or An-Nawawi’s 40 Hadith.

The author has collected only Ahadith found within the Sihah Sittah, and payed attention to choose those that can be easily implemented. The Ahadith are also supplemented by clear and era-relevant commentary and discussions on how the Hadith is to be operationalised and what implication it has on marital life. Include are ahadith on the encouragement to marry; the objective of marriage; how to select a partner; marrying without guardian approval; time-limited marriage; prenup’s; dowry; the wedding feast; the rights of both spouses etc.

The author has explained very difficult Fiqh concepts, for examples that of guardianship in a simple and lucid matter. This book is an excellent read and a highly recommended.
