What are your thoughts on foldable smartphones? Failure or triumph?

There is no doubt that foldable phones are breakthrough technology, but with innovative concepts come a number of unexpected issues.

This past weekend was a big one for the foldable phone – images of Motorola’s soon-to-be-launched foldable phone were leaked and Chinese smartphone brand Royole Technology released the very first foldable phone, the Royole FlexPai, to the general public.

Once again consumer expectations have been fired up, hoping for a technology that will seamlessly combine all the benefits of the tablet and the smartphone.

All the well-known smartphone brands – Huawei, Samsung, LG, Motorola and Xiaomi – look set to launch their versions of this futuristic technology within the next few months, and 2019 has indeed been touted as the year of the foldable phone.

But this technology has also been marred by disappointments, with Samsung being the most recent brand to hit the headlines in this regard. Although anticipation is high, there have been speculations that the first iterations of the foldable phone might be a flop.

What do you think?
