DA councillor Dr Mpho Phalatse has handed in her resignation and confirmed that she had not left the party. Phalaste said that the current political climate does not instil confidence, and as a councillor, she would continue working with the city council despite things worsening. She said returning to working as a medical doctor was just a means of using her skills more meaningfully.
Recently, the DA ran a process of looking for new premier candidates, and she did not participate. Dr Phalatse mentioned that she did not denounce being a doctor; her profession led her into politics after witnessing the country’s poor state first-hand, and instead of complaining, she opted to become the change she wanted to see.
She has found employment in the private sector and has mentioned that if something in the public sector became available and was worth her while financially and professionally, she would not hesitate to look into it. However, she said South Africans must remain hopeful, not give up, and not stop equipping themselves with all the knowledge they can to improve the future.
