· Grease Stains: Use Baking Soda to clean up light-duty oil and grease spills on your garage floor or in your driveway. Sprinkle Baking Soda on the spot and scrub with a wet brush.
· Baking soda will also put out fires in clothing, fuel, wood, upholstery and rugs.
· Freshen Ashtrays: Got a smoker in the family? Place ½ a pinch of Baking Soda in the bottom of the ashtray to eliminate stale tobacco odours. Replace the Baking Soda when you empty the ashtray. As an added bonus, the Baking Soda helps extinguish cigarettes and cigars!
· Oil and grease – stained clothing washes out better with soda added to the washing water.
· Clean your fridge and freezer with dry soda sprinkled on a damp cloth. Rinse with clear water.
· Deodorize your fridge and freezer by putting in an open container of baking soda to absorb odours. Stir and turn over the soda from time to time. Replace every 2 months.
· Soda absorbs kitty litter odours. Cover the bottom of the kitty box with 1 part soda; then add a layer of 3 parts kitty litter on top.
· Always add 1/2 cup soda to your washing machine load.
· Clean combs and brushes in a soda solution.
· Wash food and drink containers with soda and water.
· Cleaning Bathroom Floors: Baking Soda dissolves the dirt and grime from a bathroom tile or no-wax floor quickly and easily. Mix 1/2 cup Baking Soda in a bucket of warm water, mop and rinse clean for a sparkling floor.
· Keep the toilet bowl sprinkling: Mix equal parts baking soda and borax around bowl, add white vinegar, and finally clean with toilet brush. For stubborn stains, leave mixture in overnight.
· Clean formica counter tops with baking soda on a damp sponge.
· Wash out thermos bottles and cooling containers with soda and water to get rid of stale smells.
· To remove stubborn stains from marble, formica or plastic surfaces, scour with a paste of soda and water.
· Wash glass or stainless steel coffee pots (but not aluminium) in a soda solution (3 tbsp. soda to 1 quart water).
· To remove burned-on food from a pan: let the pan soak in soda and water for 10 minutes before washing. Or scrub the pot with dry soda and a moist scouring pad.
· For a badly-burned pan with a thick layer of burned-on food: pour a thick layer of soda directly onto the bottom of the pan, then sprinkle on just enough water so as to moisten the soda. Leave the pot overnight, and then scrub it clean next day.
· Carpet Cleaning: Keep your carpet smelling fresh and clean with baking soda. Just sprinkle the soda liberally over the entire carpet and let it sit for an hour. Then vacuum it up.
· Air Freshener: After you've cleaned, use baking soda as a natural deodorizer. Leave an open box in your refrigerator, clothes hamper, or closet. Change it every few months for maximum benefit.
· Sprinkle soda in tennis shoes, socks, boots and slippers to eliminate odour.
· Deodorizing Plastic Containers: Keep your plastic food storage containers and thermos smelling fresh. Wash them with Baking Soda sprinkled on a damp sponge. For lingering odours, just soak items in a solution of 4 tablespoons Baking Soda solution in 1 quart warm water. You will never know what was stored in them before!
