Human Face

How many times is the word face mentioned in the Quran?

The word Face is mentioned 71 times in the Quran in 10 different concepts such as Face of the Believers, Face of the Disbelievers,

FACE OF THE BELIVERS

Submitting Face:

Yes! But whoever submits (his face (himself) to Allah (i.e. follows Allah’s religion of Islamic Monotheism) and he is a Muhsin then his reward is with his Lord (Allah),  on such shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.

(Surah Baqarah 2:112)

And who can be better in religion than one who submits his face (himself) to Allah; and he is a Muhsin (a doer of good). ..

(Surah An-Nisa 4:125)

Performing Wudu:

O you who believe! When you stand (intend) to offer the Salah (the prayer), then wash (your faces and your hands (forearms) up to the elbows, rub (ا ْوُحَسْام َو) (by passing wet hands over) your heads, and (wash) your feet up to the ankles….

(5:6)

Face of a believer in the Hereafter:

On the Day (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) when some faces will become white and some faces will become black;

(Surah Ali ‘Imran 3:106)

And for those whose faces will become white, they will be in Allah’s mercy (Paradise), therein they shall dwell forever.

(Surah Ali ‘Imran 3:107)

For those who have done good is the best, and even more. Neither darkness nor dust nor any humiliating disgrace shall cover their faces. They are the dwellers of Paradise, they will abide therein forever.

(Surah Ali ‘Imran10:26)

Some faces that Day will be bright (MUSFIRAH), Laughing, rejoicing at good news.

(Surah ‘Abasa 80:38-39)

You will recognize in their faces the brightness of delight. They will be given to drink of pure sealed Rahiq. Sealed with musk….

(Surah Al-Mutaffifin,83:24-26)

Continuing with the 3rd bone of the face that all humans have

Two inferior nasal conchae

What are inferior nasal conchae and where is it situated

The nasal conchae are bony plates located on the lateral wall of the nasal cavity (nose). Specifically, they are situated on each side of the nasal cavity (internal past of the nose), extending horizontally along the lower portion of the nasal septum

The nasal cavity is essential for both breathing and our sense of smell (olfaction). Did you know that 80% of taste actually comes from what we smell? That is why food is almost tasteless when our nose is clogged.

The nose is the most prominent part of the human face. It has internal and external parts. If you’re in a gathering, the appearance of the external part is certainly very important. However, besides the external nose the internal is much more important. The internal part of the nose is termed the nasal cavity. It is involved in respiration, smell, speech and taste.

So the Two inferior nasal conchae (bones which we are discussing) is amongst the internal parts of the nose.

Specialties of Two inferior nasal conchae

  • Respiratory Function: The main function of the nasal concha that Allah has placed is to increase the surface area of the nasal cavities in order to provide warming and humidification of air as it passes to the lungs.
  • Sinus Drainage: The inferior nasal conchae also play a role in facilitating drainage from the sinuses. By regulating airflow within the nasal cavity, they help in sinus health and function.
  • Nasal Congestion Regulation: The inferior nasal conchae can swell or shrink in response to various factors, including changes in temperature, humidity, and hormonal fluctuations. This ability to undergo changes in size, known as nasal cycle or nasal congestion, helps to regulate airflow and maintain proper nasal function. For example, during nasal congestion (e.g., due to allergies or colds), the inferior nasal conchae may swell to reduce the airflow through the affected nostril, thereby minimizing the entry of allergens or pathogens into the respiratory system.
