iStore Announces Battery Replacement Program in SA for iPhones

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 10-01-2018

Apple’s iStore in South Africa has announced it will offer battery replacements for certain models of iPhones at a cost of R429.78 per device.

This is iStore’s out-of-warranty iPhone battery replacement, is in accordance with the Apple’s battery replacement programme.

The company made the announcement following a statement from Apple regarding iPhone battery replacements in the US. In the US, Apple offers users a battery replacement for $29, a reduction from the previous $79 price which is valid for the iPhone 6 or newer.

Apple apologised to customers after it confirmed last year it took some measures to reduce power demands – which can have the effect of slowing the processor on an iPhone when a phone’s battery is having trouble supplying the peak current that the processor demands.

Apple says phones without the adjustment would shut down abruptly because of a precaution designed to prevent components from getting fried.

The iStore says owners of iPhone SE, 6, 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, 7 and 7 Plus who suspect that their battery might need to be replaced should visit their website (https://www.myistore.co.za/help-center) to make a technical appointment from 11 January 2018.

“The customer’s iPhone will be assessed in store, and if eligible under this program, will be sent for battery replacement. Online booking is essential.”

The iStore says the in-store technical appointment fee of R200 usually applicable to non-iStore customers, will be waived for the battery replacement program, for a limited time provided that an appointment has been booked online.
