The Johannesburg Emergency Services (EMS) called on residents to stay safe as cold weather is moving over Gauteng. Temperatures are expected to dip which also results in warnings about the use of heating devices.

Johannesburg’s EMS urged residents to exercise caution when heating devices with temperatures expected to dip below freezing.

Spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi appealed to residents not to leave heating devices, including paraffin stoves, braziers or imbawula, unattended while in use to prevent fire incidents at home.

Mulaudzi’s warning comes as residents turn to various heating devices to combat the cold. It’s crucial to use these devices safely to avoid potential fire hazards. Improper use of heaters, braziers, and other heating equipment can lead to disastrous consequences.

As the cold front approaches, remember that safety is in your hands. Both Johannesburg and Tshwane EMS are prepared to respond to emergencies, but your vigilance and adherence to safety guidelines can prevent them. Ensure your heating practices are safe to protect yourself and your loved ones.

Stay safe, warm, and cautious during this cold snap. For more updates and safety tips, keep an eye on official EMS communications. Your awareness is key to staying safe.
