Landrover has launched a rugged and tough new mobile phone synonymous with the Discovery SUV that inspired it.
Ideal for those that like to rough it in the outdoors or have a productive day at the office, the new Land Rover Explore smartphone has a five-inch FHD touchscreen which is Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protected and optimised for outdoor use.
The display can be controlled with gloves on or with wet fingers and it also has night red filter mode which reduces screen glare, preserving natural vision in low light and at night. The phone’s home screen has a customisable outdoor dashboard for instant access to weather information and data from the device’s sensors.
Developed by Land Rover and Bullitt Group the Land Rover Explore packs a 4,000mAh battery, is IP68 splash, water and dust resistance and can withstand a drop of up to 1.8 metres with a factory-fitted screen protector.
Powered by Android Nougat (7.0) OS, the Land Rover Explore has a Deca-core 2.6GHz 64 bit MTK Helio X27 chipset with dual SIM functionality. It has 4GB RAM and is available in 64GB storage, expandable via microSD.
The Land Rover Explore also has a 16MP rear camera, 8MP front camera, 4x digital zoom.
Director of Branded Goods and Licensing, Jaguar Land Rover Joe Sinclair says the Land Rover Explore is a phone a perfect combination of design and functionality.
“It embodies the Land Rover DNA and enables customers to be outdoors for longer, with the confidence to go further.”
Other hardware packs are available for the Land Rover Explore, including a large 4,370mAh additional battery and a universal bike mount.
The phone will be revealed at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Spain and available for pre-order in South Africa from April 2018.
