Renewal of the Heart and Soul
Phase 5 – Transformation: Becoming Who Allah Loves
Laylatul Qadr: A Night of Heart Renewal
My dear brothers and sisters, today we sit in a unique moment. Last night was the 27th of Ramadhan — the night most expected to be Laylatul Qadr. We stood in prayer. We made du’a. We poured out our hearts. And now, as the sun rises on this new day, we are left with one question: What happened in that night? Did it change us?
Today, as we continue our journey of heart renewal, we speak about Laylatul Qadr: A Night of Heart Renewal — not as an anticipation, but as a reflection on what the night means and what it should produce in us.
The Night That Passed
Last night, the angels descended. Jibril (peace be upon him) came to earth. Peace filled the atmosphere from sunset to dawn. It was, for those who were awake and aware, a night unlike any other.
Allah describes it:
“تَنَزَّلُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ وَالرُّوحُ فِيهَا بِإِذْنِ رَبِّهِم مِّن كُلِّ أَمْرٍ * سَلَامٌ هِيَ حَتَّىٰ مَطْلَعِ الْفَجْرِ”
“The angels and the Spirit descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter. Peace it is until the emergence of dawn.” (Surah Al-Qadr, 97:4-5)
Imagine that peace. Imagine being surrounded by angels. Imagine your du’as being carried directly to the Throne. This was last night for those who were present.
But now the night has passed. The question is: What remains?
The True Measure of Laylatul Qadr
The true measure of whether you caught Laylatul Qadr is not a feeling you had during the night. It is not a vision or a dream. The true measure is what the night does to your heart afterwards.
Did it leave you changed? Did it leave you softer? Did it leave you more conscious of Allah? Did it renew your commitment to turn away from sin? Did it deepen your love for your Creator?
This is the fruit of Laylatul Qadr. Not a mystical experience, but a transformed heart.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“مَنْ قَامَ لَيْلَةَ الْقَدْرِ إِيمَانًا وَاحْتِسَابًا غُفِرَ لَهُ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِهِ”
“Whoever stands in prayer on the Night of Decree with faith and hope of reward, his previous sins will be forgiven.” (Bukhari & Muslim)
Forgiveness of sins is not just a legal transaction. It is a cleansing of the heart. When sins are forgiven, the heart is purified. The rust is removed. The weight is lifted. You should feel lighter, cleaner, closer.
Ask yourself today: Do I feel that lightness? Do I feel that closeness? Has my heart been renewed?
The Night That Should Change You
If last night was truly Laylatul Qadr for you — if you stood with faith and hope — then you should emerge different. Not perfect, but different. Not sinless, but more sensitive to sin. Not done with struggle, but more equipped to struggle.
A renewed heart:
- Feels the weight of sin more. What you used to do casually now bothers you.
- Finds sweetness in worship. Prayer is no longer a burden but a refuge.
- Turns to Allah first. In joy and in sorrow, He is the first resort.
- Cares less about people’s opinions. Allah’s approval is what matters
- Longs for Jannah and fears the Fire. These are real, present realities.
Do you see these signs in yourself today? If yes, praise Allah. The night did its work. If not, do not despair. The door is still open. Renewal can happen in any moment.
What If You Feel Nothing?
Some of you may feel nothing today. You stood last night, you prayed, you asked, but your heart feels the same. There is no lightness, no special feeling, no dramatic change.
Do not be discouraged. Feelings are not the measure. Faith is not about emotions; it is about certainty and action. You did what was asked of you. You stood with faith and hope. The reward is with Allah, whether you feel it or not.
The Remaining Nights
Laylatul Qadr may have already passed in the previous nights, it may have been last night, or it may be among the remaining odd nights — the 29th is still ahead. Do not stop now. The Prophet ﷺ sought it all ten nights, not just one. Continue your efforts. Continue your prayers. Continue your du’as.
The renewed heart is not a one-night project. It is a lifetime of turning to Allah, night after night, year after year.
The Du’a for a Renewed Heart
As you reflect on last night and look toward what remains, make this du’a constantly:
“اللَّهُمَّ جَدِّدِ الْإِيمَانَ فِي قَلْبِي”
“O Allah, renew faith in my heart.”
And the du’a the Prophet ﷺ taught us:
“يَا مُقَلِّبَ الْقُلُوبِ ثَبِّتْ قَلْبِي عَلَى دِينِكَ”
“O Turner of hearts, make my heart firm upon Your religion.” (Tirmidhi)
The heart turns. Ask the One who controls it to keep it turned toward Him.
My brothers and sisters, Laylatul Qadr has passed — perhaps. But your relationship with Allah has not. The renewal you seek is not dependent on one night. It is the cumulative effect of a lifetime of turning to Him.
If last night softened you, protect that softness. If last night awakened you, stay awake. If last night renewed you, carry that renewal forward.
The goal is not just a good Ramadhan. The goal is a renewed heart that lasts until you meet Him.
“إِنَّ الَّذِينَ قَالُوا رَبُّنَا اللَّهُ ثُمَّ اسْتَقَامُوا تَتَنَزَّلُ عَلَيْهِمُ الْم”
Indeed, those who have said, ‘Our Lord is Allah,’ and then remained steadfast, the angels descend upon them.” (Surah Fussilat, 41: 30)
Steadfastness. Consistency. A heart that remains firm long after the night has passed. This is the goal.
May Allah accept from us all, renew our hearts, and make us among those who remain steadfast. Ameen.
