Rand Water has urged Johannesburg residents to stock up on water ahead of its 58-hour planned shutdown.

The shutdown is planned from 7pm on Tuesday.

Rand Water will be conducting planned maintenance on some of its major pipelines in the city for four days.

Affected areas will include Sandton, Soweto, Randburg, Roodepoort, Ennerdale, Mayfair and Lenasia.

Rand Water said an alternative water supply would be provided by Johannesburg Water at its affected reservoirs.

Residents around the city are urged to prepare accordingly for a waterless winter week.

Maintenance work is expected to have lasting effects that will hamper the restoration of supply for up to 10 days after the shutdown.

Johannesburg Water said areas under the Daleside, Zwartkopjes and Eikenhof booster stations will be adversely affected.

Lenasia Councillor, Imraan Moosa said that there is an emergency disaster crisis with regards to water in the City of Johannesburg and notification has been received that Lenasia will be included in the Shutdown from tomorrow afternoon for 58 hours.

Johannesburg Water will have roaming trucks at the following roads in Lenasia:

  • Gemsbok Street
  • Rose Avenue
  • Nirvana Drive
  • Nirvana Haven old Age Home
