Life with Aloes

Aloes make a great addition to any garden. Why? They ensure that your garden is alive with colour at a time of year when it is most needed, play a major role in attracting birdlife into the garden making them perfect for the busy homeowner. With Aloes in your garden you can expect hoopoe crested barbet and red-winged starling. Aloes supply much needed this time of the year when food sources are scarce.

Choosing Aloes

Aloe hybrids are colourful addition to the highveld garden as they adapt well to local conditions. Aloe hybrids grow faster than the normal species, bear more flowers and have a longer flowering period.

How to grow Aloes

Aloes are succulent plants that can tolerate draught. They don’t ggrow well in water logged soil but thrive in well-drained, well- composted soil in sunny spot.

Single species are best planted en masse flower simultaneously. In a flowered with mixed aloes, add some rocks and low-growing succulent ground covers to provide a spectacular show.
