A McKinsey research report has revealed that up to 800 million workers worldwide may lose their jobs to artificial intelligence (AI) by 2030 while half of contemporary work functions could be automated by 2055.
Ryan Falkenberg, co-CEO of CLEVVA, points out that Elon Musk, Uber and Airbnb are transforming entire industries with AI, while established technology giants such as Microsoft, Apple and Google are investing billions into AI-powered features and startups to ensure they maintain their dominant market positions.
While the implications of robots taking over human jobs have raised concerns, Nihka Technologies says the human element is still a critical component.
The company says while jobs are being automated, a new report has shown that over fifty million new jobs have been created.
CEO Yashmita Bhana says even though companies are introducing digital programmes which may result in some retrenchments, robots have limited emotional quotient.
“Can you tell a robot that your child is ill? The tagline of my company is bringing EQ (Emotional Intelligence) into AI and the type of skills and jobs that are growing or that will be needed in the future is this type of EQ skills where a human needs to have the human to human interaction.”
Bhana says jobs that at risk of being taken over by AI include production, supply chain and logistics amongst others.
