Do you still use slang language? What are your favourite words or phrases that you grew up with?

While today’s children may not be familiar with the lingo of their parents from years ago and have their own “TikTok” way of chatting to their friends or even cousins, the slang language culture among the older generation has stuck and continues to be used  even today among family, friends and even colleagues.

Radio Islam staff shared some sentiments about the beauty of diversity of languages to communicate and even express emotion.

Some of the many words that have become synonymous with South African culture include voetsek, lightie, tymah, ekse, what’s vaaing on and aweh, among others.

Listen to the  lighter side of communication and conversation using unique South African words and phrases on Sabaahul Muslim on Thursday morning.
