Samsung South Africa is leaving an indelible mark on the education sector by announcing it will continue its bursary programme for 2020.
At its ‘Empowering Tomorrow’ event held in Johannesburg on Wednesday, Samsung announced that it has increased its bursaries to students of the University of Pretoria, North-West University, University of Johannesburg and Gauteng City Region Academy (GCRA), a branch of the Gauteng Department of Education responsible for promoting skills development in the Gauteng City region.
Following its initial investment of R7 million in 2019, Sung Yoon, President and CEO of Samsung Africa, revealed that the company would award another R7 million for 2020 – In total, Samsung will be investing R14 million.
The investment forms part of Samsung’s wide-ranging efforts to uplift learners and students in the country.
Speaking to Radio Islam, Yoon who is passionate about education says the dedication of the students have inspired Samsung to continue its support for education in South Africa.
“It’s just not financial support. How we can support continuously. My team and me reviewed how we support society and for the students and their families and we decided tonight we will continue for 2020 because they are the future of South Africa.”
Yoon says the future of South Africa is very bright and wants all South Africans to think about the country’s future.
