With the December holiday around the corner, software-coding company Africa Point Group has urged parents to enthuse their children curiosity with the important and highly sought after skills of coding.
Coding itself is a process of using a programming language to get a computer to behave the way users want it to.
With a pilot programme of coding and robotics expected to be introduced in the schooling curriculum from 2020, acquiring technical skills has become even more important.
Speaking to Radio Islam, Africa Point Groups Jolanta Ksiezniak says while coding a great tool to keep kids entertained during the December break, it also equips them with skills to embrace the fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR).
“Coding is like learning a new language. So the earlier the kid’s start learning a new language, the easier it is for them. But learning to code sounds intimidating but learning to code has benefits far greater than being able to create apps ow programs.”
Ksiezniak says the coding game Scottie Go distributed by Africa Point Group has been voted by many teachers in South Africa as the most innovative solution to teach children coding.
“It is an educational game which is available in more than fifty countries and now in Africa and with it kids will learn how to think logically, how to solve problems, communicate and collaborate.”
Ksiezniak says teacher and parents love the game because it’s tactile and limits screen time.
