My Lord Nurtures Me

Instilling Peace and Tranquillity

In a world filled with stress, uncertainty, and emotional struggles, finding true peace and tranquillity is a deep human need. Our Lord, in His infinite mercy, nurtures us emotionally by granting us inner peace through faith, remembrance, reliance on Him, and guidance from the Qur’an and Sunnah. The concept of Sakinah (divine tranquillity) in Islam shows how Allah blesses the hearts of believers with serenity, even amid difficulties. Allah says:

“He it is Who sent down tranquillity into the hearts of the believers, that they might add faith to their faith.” (Al-Fath 48: 4)

This verse emphasizes that true peace comes from Allah, and through His guidance, we can cultivate a life of emotional stability and contentment.

  1. Peace Through Remembrance of Allah (Dhikr)

One of the most powerful ways Allah nurtures us with peace is through His remembrance (dhikr). The Qur’an explicitly states that hearts find tranquillity in remembering Allah. Allah says:

أَلَا بِذِكْرِ ٱللَّهِ تَطْمَئِنُّ ٱلْقُلُوبُ

“Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.” (Ar-Ra’d 13: 28)

How dhikr nurtures emotional well-being:

  • It calms the mind by shifting focus from worries to divine presence
  • It strengthens faith, reminding us that Allah is in control.
  • It reduces anxiety, as it fosters trust in divine wisdom.

Studies show that mindfulness and meditation (which parallel dhikr) reduce stress and increase mental clarity, confirming the psychological benefits of engaging in dhikr.

  1. Peace Through Salah (Prayer)

Salah (prayer) is one of the greatest sources of inner peace. It is not only an obligation but also a spiritual retreat where a believer disconnects from worldly concerns and reconnects with Allah. The Prophet ﷺ said:

يَا بِلاَلُ أَقِمِ الصَّلاَةَ أَرِحْنَا بِهَا

“O Bilal, call the prayer, and let us find comfort in it.” (Abu Dawood 4985)

How Salah nurtures emotional well-being:

  • It provides a structured moment of peace five times a day.
  • It strengthens the bond between the believer and Allah, offering reassurance.
  • It relieves stress and brings emotional stability.
  1. Peace Through a Righteous Environment

Allah nurtures our emotional well-being by guiding us to surround ourselves with righteous people who uplift and support us. The Prophet ﷺ said:

الرَّجُلُ عَلَى دِينِ خَلِيلِهِ فَلْيَنْظُرْ أَحَدُكُمْ مَنْ يُخَالِلُ

“A person is upon the religion of his close friend, so let one of you look at whom he befriends.” (Abu Dawood 4833)

How a righteous environment nurtures emotional well-being?

  • It prevents negativity and emotional toxicity from affecting us.
  • It provides spiritual and emotional support in difficult times.
  • It encourages positive habits that lead to inner peace.

Allah nurtures our hearts with peace through dhikr, Salah, tawakkul, shukr, the Qur’an, righteous companionship, and the promise of Jannah. By embracing these divine sources of tranquillity, we develop emotional resilience, find contentment in all situations, and experience true inner peace.
