My Lord Nurtures Me

Granting Inner Peace Through Remembrance

Life is filled with uncertainties, trials, and moments of emotional turbulence. At times, we may feel lost, burdened by worries, or overwhelmed by the challenges we face. However, amidst the chaos, Allah grants us inner peace through His remembrance (dhikr). His guidance, mercy, and connection provide us with tranquillity that no worldly possession can offer.

The Qur’an beautifully reminds us:

أَلَا بِذِكْرِ ٱللَّهِ تَطْمَئِنُّ ٱلْقُلُوبُ

“Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.” (Ar-Ra’d 13: 28)

This verse is a divine promise — true peace lies not in wealth, status, or material success but in the remembrance of Allah.

  1. The Meaning of Dhikr (Remembrance of Allah)

Dhikr means to remember, mention, and glorify Allah in our hearts, on our tongues, and through our actions. It includes:

  • Reciting tasbih (subhanAllah), tahmid (alhamdulillah), takbir (Allahu Akbar), and tahlil (La ilaha illa Allah).
  • Reading Qur’an and reflecting on its meanings.
  • Making Du’a (supplication) and seeking Allah’s mercy.
  • Offering Salaah (prayer) and turning to Allah with sincerity.

Dhikr strengthens the soul, calms the heart, and brings us closer to our Creator.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

مَثَلُ الَّذِي يَذْكُرُ رَبَّهُ وَالَّذِي لاَ يَذْكُرُ مَثَلُ الْحَىِّ وَالْمَيِّتِ

“The example of the one who remembers his Lord and the one who does not remember Him is like that of the living and the dead.” (Bukhari 6407)

This hadith highlights how dhikr gives life to our hearts. Without it, we are spiritually lifeless, disconnected from the One who nurtures us.

  1. Dhikr as a Source of Inner Peace and Healing

Allah’s remembrance is not just a spiritual practice — it is a form of emotional and psychological healing. It helps us cope with stress, anxiety, and sadness.

“Those who believe and whose hearts find tranquillity in the remembrance of Allah—verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.” (Ar-Ra’d 13: 28)

How does dhikr bring peace?

  • It shifts focus from worries to Allah’s greatness. When we remember Allah, we realize that He is in control, easing our anxieties.
  • It fills the heart with gratitude. Saying Alhamdulillah reminds us of our blessings, reducing feelings of dissatisfaction.
  • It strengthens patience. Dhikr helps us endure difficulties, trusting that Allah’s wisdom is greater than our struggles.
  • It erases sorrow. Seeking forgiveness through Astaghfirullah cleanses the soul, lightening the burden of past mistakes.

Interesting Fact:

Scientific studies show that meditation and repetitive prayers reduce stress, lower blood pressure, and improve emotional well-being. Dhikr serves a similar function, but with a deeper connection to Allah.

Allah nurtures us by granting inner peace through dhikr. No matter what we face — fear, sadness, stress — His remembrance is the key to tranquillity. By making dhikr a part of our daily lives, we strengthen our connection with Allah and experience the serenity that comes from knowing He is always with us.

Final Reflection:

How often do you turn to dhikr in times of distress? Try increasing your remembrance of Allah and witness the transformation in your heart.
