My Lord Nurtures Me

Renewing and Purifying the Mind

The mind is one of the greatest gifts and most powerful tools granted to us by our Lord, Allah. However, just as the body requires nourishment and purification, so does the mind. Our Lord nurtures us by providing divine guidance in the Qur’an and Sunnah, ensuring that our thoughts remain clear, positive, and aligned with truth.

  1. The Importance of a Pure and Renewed Mind in Islam

A purified mind is essential for understanding the truth, making wise decisions, and maintaining a strong connection with Allah. The Qur’an describes the heart and mind as faculties of comprehension and reflection:

إِنَّ فِى خَلْقِ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَٱخْتِلَـٰفِ ٱلَّيْلِ وَٱلنَّهَارِ لَـَٔايَـٰتٍ لِّأُو۟لِى ٱلْأَلْبَـٰبِ

“Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day are signs for those of understanding.” (Aal-Imran 3: 190)

This verse nurtures us by reminding us to reflect deeply and seek renewal in our thoughts, rather than remain stagnant in ignorance or negativity.

  1. Purification of the Mind Through Dhikr (Remembrance of Allah)

One of the most powerful ways our Lord nurtures our mind is through remembrance of Him. Dhikr cleanses the thoughts, removes anxieties, and fills the heart with tranquillity. Allah says:

ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَتَطْمَئِنُّ قُلُوبُهُم بِذِكْرِ ٱللَّهِ ۗ أَلَا بِذِكْرِ ٱللَّهِ تَطْمَئِنُّ ٱلْقُلُوبُ

“Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.” (Ar-Ra’d 13: 28)

By engaging in daily dhikr, reciting the Qur’an, and making supplications, our mind is constantly renewed with peace, clarity, and a deep connection to our Creator.

  1. Seeking Knowledge: Expanding and Refreshing the Mind

Our Lord nurtures our mind by encouraging lifelong learning and seeking knowledge. Islam places great emphasis on education and reflection, ensuring that our intellect remains sharp and informed.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

طَلَبُ الْعِلْمِ فَرِيضَةٌ عَلَى كُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ

“Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim.” (Ibn Majah 224)

Through reading, studying, and engaging in beneficial discussions, we ensure that our mind remains active, fresh, and aligned with the truth.

  1. Avoiding Harmful Influences and Negative Thoughts

To maintain a pure and renewed mind, our Lord warns us against consuming harmful content, engaging in idle talk, and following deceptive influences. Allah says:

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱجْتَنِبُوا۟ كَثِيرًا مِّنَ ٱلظَّنِّ إِنَّ بَعْضَ ٱلظَّنِّ إِثْمٌ ۖ وَلَا تَجَسَّسُوا۟ وَلَا يَغْتَب بَّعْضُكُم بَعْضًا ۚ

“O you who have believed, avoid much suspicion. Indeed, some suspicion is sin. And do not spy or backbite each other.” (Al-Hujurat 49: 12)

By guarding our thoughts, avoiding toxic environments, and limiting distractions, we can ensure that our mind remains free from unnecessary negativity and corruption.

When the mind is clean and when the mind is pure, then it is very easy to fill that mind with the true love of Allah.
