Medicine is a wonderful thing–and in some cases, it's the only thing that will make a sick child better. But as even your doctor will tell you, you don't always need a prescription to get an under-the-weather child back on his feet again. Though not meant to take the place of medical attention (always call your paediatrician with any concerns), these remedies may help your child through a bad night or offer some comfort until his next doctor's appointment.
Ear Infections
Placing warm compresses over your child's ear to help ease pain. Heat soothes and distracts–two pluses when you're trying to comfort a sick child–while increasing blood flow.
Microwave a potato for five minutes, and then wrap a wet washcloth around it the potato will retain the heat–just make sure it's not hot enough to burn your child." Because some ear infections are caused by bacteria, call your paediatrician to ask if your child needs an antibiotic.
Sore Throat
If your child is old enough to gargle–usually at about age 6 or 7–have him swish back a solution of one teaspoon salt and warm water (about eight ounces). "The warm water is soothing, and the salt acts as an antiseptic- tic, helping kill germs.
. Another throat soother: a few ounces of warm water mixed with a teaspoon of honey and the juice from half a lemon. "Even in small quantities," "lemon can have an analgesic effect, and honey can stimulate the immune system." Home remedy for kids/babies/toddlers with cold or congestion:
Crush a small amount of garlic. Mix with mustard oil. You can add some Methi (Fenugreek) if you like. Boil and then cool. Test the temperature till very luke warm. Rub small amount on the soles of the feet and the palm of the hands.
Home remedy for Kids/babies/toddlers with stomach ache
Mix mustard oil with a small amount of water. Beat till it becomes white. Massage gently on abdomen, especially the lower abdomen for stomach ache relief.
Take mustard oil around 5-10 tsp. heat it; put crushed garlic, ajwain seeds in it. After it gets fried, cooled, strain and store it in a bottle. Whenever needed, heat it little bit and apply on children neck, throat, forehead and little bit on the head. It relieves coughs.
For infants heat coconut oil and when it's hot put some camphor in it and switch it off. Close it and let it cool for some time. Store it in an air tight container.
Rub them this in the morning and in the night. This will make them free from congestion.
Wrap some Aniseed (ajwain) in a piece of cloth and make it into a ball. Heat the ball of cloth with an iron or 'tawa' and place it gently on your child's chest. Move it back and forth. Make sure the cloth isn't so hot, that it would burn your baby's skin! Your child will feel better. Do this for two days, and you will see results.

Turmeric milk drink: Heat 1/2 cup of milk. Add ½ teaspoon turmeric,
1/2 teaspoon melted butter or ghee, and a few sprinkles of salt. Stir and drink. Works wonders for sore throats and coughs.
