Over Three Dozen People Burnt Alive in Congo Accident

Over 33 people were killed when a bus overturned in the Democratic Republic of Congo at the weekend. According to Reuters the incident occurred when a fuel truck and a bus collided near the village of Kiwawa which is a six hour drive from the country’s capital Kinshasa.

The bus had allegedly been overcrowded and both vehicles exploded into flames on impact, engulfing dozens of people and burning them alive.

Deadly road accidents are common in the DRC, where the roads are full of old vehicles that are often not road worthy, and roads are simply not maintained.

An oil tanker accident in October 2018 killed 53 people along a road into Kinshasa.

Videos shared on social media showed the vehicle on its side, its undercarriage burning and fruit all across the road. Radio Islam could unfortunately not verify the footage.
