The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas has resulted in an escalating humanitarian crisis, with casualties mounting and displacement surging in the Gaza Strip. In the Palestine Report on Radio Islam International with Moulana Ebrahim Moosa, the devastating impact of the war was discussed.
Since the onset of the Tufan al-Aqsa operation, the death toll of Palestinians has surpassed 2 600, with an additional 55 casualties reported in the West Bank. On the Israeli side, the toll stands at 1 400, mostly attributed to the initial Hamas attack.
Israel has, to date, not killed or captured any leaders of Hamas.
Over the weekend, Hamas launched extended-range missiles on the “Israeli” state.
“And they’ve [Hamas] also targeted specific cities within the state of Israel repeatedly, which is obviously causing massive, targeted damage in certain of these areas,” Moulana Moosa reported.
Moulana Moosa said that information is murky about Palestinian fighters who went into Palestine1948 last Saturday. Conflicting reports have emerged about the decimation of these fighters, which initially numbered between 1 000 – 2 000. Although Israel has reported that they have decimated these Palestinian fighters, Moulana Moosa says that these reports remain unreliable.
In the south of historic Palestine in Sderot city, there are reportedly 60 000 internally displaced Israelis, Moulana Moosa said.
The plight of people who have been displaced within Gaza has added to the gravity of the crisis, as cramped conditions, water shortages, and the pressing need for humanitarian aid continue to exacerbate the situation. The alarming decision to dig mass graves due to the overwhelming number of casualties in Gaza highlights the critical lack of resources and the dire conditions faced by medical personnel operating under extreme duress.
Moreover, the potential plans of the Israeli government to enforce demographic changes in Gaza, including the displacement of Palestinians and the closure of villages in the West Bank, pose a threat to the fundamental rights and safety of the Palestinian people. Reports of alleged manipulation of evidence and the planting of false narratives, echoing parallels to the war on terror rhetoric, have further complicated the already volatile situation.
While international efforts to address the crisis have shown some promising developments, the urgency to establish a sustainable resolution that upholds Palestinian rights remains paramount. The resounding determination among Palestinians to reclaim their rights and resist displacement underpins the gravity of the situation.
As the conflict unfolds, the call for global support and intervention to ensure the safety and well-being of all affected communities has never been more critical. The international community must step up its efforts to de-escalate the crisis and work towards a comprehensive and lasting peace for the region.
It is imperative for the Muslim Ummah to engage in acts of ibadah such as salaah, zhikr and fervent dua.
