Palestine Report: Data in new survey positions Gaza genocide as “one of the bloodiest conflicts of the 21st century”

  • Israeli bombings by air, sea, and land in Gaza have intensified, killing hundreds daily.
  • Most of those killed are starving people seeking food, while essential supplies like milk and vegetables remain blocked.
  • Prime Minister Netanyahu is losing political ground as Israeli protests for a prisoner exchange grow.
  • Palestinian resistance fighters continue daily operations against Israeli forces, especially in Khan Yunus.
  • New research shows the Gaza genocide is one of the bloodiest conflicts of the 21st century, with civilians, especially women and children, suffering the most.

The humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza continues to escalate as Israeli forces intensify their relentless assault by air, sea, and land. Over the past several days, Palestinians have endured what they call “fire belts” — concentrated bombardments in areas like Jabalia, Al-Shati, Tufah, and Khan Yunus. Entire families have been buried alive as non-stop bombings target civilians in plain sight.

During this week’s Palestine Report, Moulana Ebrahim Moosa painted a harrowing picture: “There’s been a very clear uptick that’s noticeable since Friday from the Israeli side.”

Despite mounting casualties, international discussions now seem more focused on potential ceasefire deals than the growing famine ravaging Gaza.

Aid into the territory remains critically insufficient.

“From the aid that is entering Gaza, there’s no vegetables, there’s no fruit, no fish,” Moulana Moosa explained, underscoring that the quality and quantity of supplies are far below what is required for basic survival. Malnutrition has already claimed the lives of at least 66 children, with desperate fishermen shot at while trying to secure food for their families.

On the political front, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s influence is faltering. His attempts to postpone his corruption trial by citing regional tensions were only partially successful. The Israeli public’s frustration is resurfacing, with citizens once again taking to the streets to demand a prisoner exchange deal.

“They only gave him a one-week postponement, which means that this week now could be quite critical for Netanyahu to pull off some tricks.

Meanwhile, Palestinian resistance persists daily, particularly in Khan Yunus, with fighters targeting Israeli bulldozers and troops in tactical operations. Despite Israel’s claims of strategic advances, its military objectives remain unmet, and the resilience on the ground continues to challenge its campaign.

New research has now confirmed what many feared: the Gaza genocide is among the bloodiest conflict of the 21st century. Results from a study conducted by Professor Michael Spagat of Royal Holloway College, University of London, highlight that Gaza holds the highest ratio of civilian to combatant deaths globally.

Spagat’s research revealed the high ratio of civilian deaths to overall population—a rate that may exceed 4%, with some estimates suggesting it could be as high as 8% to 10%. Notably, the proportion of women and children killed in Gaza is more than double that of other recent conflicts, with 56% of fatalities comprising these vulnerable groups. This exceptional statistic highlights the severity and unique humanitarian crisis faced by the Palestinian population amid ongoing violence.
