Jerusalem – In an interview on Radio Islam International, Abeer Zayyad, a historical expert and journalist, provided an update on the current situation in Jerusalem, Gaza, and the broader Palestinian region.
Zayyad reported a dire situation in Gaza, where a school was bombed, causing uncertainty about the number of casualties. Prior to this incident, more than 500 individuals, including 100 children, had lost their lives due to continuous bombardment. There are mounting fears of a potential escalation, as Israeli media discusses the possibility of a complete “whip out” of Gaza.
In Jerusalem, Zayyad described a series of attacks on various areas by Israeli forces, resulting in the loss of three lives. Certain neighbourhoods, like Hizma, have been entirely blocked off, preventing residents from leaving. Furthermore, access to places of worship, such as the masjid, has been restricted, even for workers and elderly individuals.
The West Bank has not been spared from the crisis, with Israelis taking retaliatory actions, attacking cars and individuals on the main road. The situation in this region is increasingly tense and volatile.
Zayyad shared that many Israelis are frustrated with their government’s handling of the situation. While some advocate for a complete withdrawal from Gaza, others, including prominent journalist Gideon Levy, argue that Israel fails to comprehend the consequences of its actions over the years, including allegations of apartheid and violence.
In a minority voice, religious figures suggest that the ongoing crisis stems from actions within the masjid. However, the prevailing sentiment among Israelis is to intensify actions against Palestinians.
Gaza is at the centre of the conflict. Clashes near Gaza settlements persist, and Israel is evacuating people from 25 settlements in an attempt to curb resistance.
May Allah make it easy.
