The Greyville Swimming Pools in Lenasia Ext 2 have existed for over 50 years. Kids and families visit these pools every summer to cool down and enjoy themselves. It’s about time some significant renovations take place at these pools.

Significant work is required within and around the pool, including repairing the heating systems. Various issues in need of focus together with security and safety issues, the walls surrounding the pool need to be higher, and the blind spots in the corner of the pool are needed to be included within the pool boundaries, said Shoneez Bulbulia.

According to Bulbulia, local users and swimming clubs which use the pool have also raised concerns regarding inside & outside security as the pool is situated next to a park with many loiterers hanging around.

Meanwhile, the City of Johannesburg’s Sports and Recreation Department has allocated 2.7 million rands to fund renovations.

Bulbulia said the city and the community involved in using the pool need to conduct meetings to arrange a way forward and ensure the spending of the funds accordingly.
