SANHA ALERT ON CADBURY PRODUCTS

By Neelam Rahim

SANHA has released an alert which indicates the Cadbury chocolates, lunch bar, P.S, and chomp products contain some ingredients that are not approved by SANHA and therefore advise the public to exercise caution with regards to this kindly.

Moulana Navlakhi of SANHA shares the context of this alert with Radio Islam.

ML Navlakhi says, “The matter pertaining to Cadbury, approximately 8 to 10 years ago when Cadbury has made applications to SANHA. At the time of decree, we went through the process of screening raw materials etc. for some reason there was no proceeding with certification. During that time we did not find tartaric acid from wine sources.”

“Subsequently Cadbury resubmitted application last year. We went through the processes and identified these raw materials which were of concern. There was contemplation about reformulation and revisiting the whole development of the product. They felt they wouldn’t be able to do it in the near future. We then had no option but to alert the community about these products which contain tartaric acid from wine sources,” says ML Navlakhi.

“This is the first communication from SANHA regarding Cadbury.”

ML Navlakhi also says, “After lengthy communication and correspondence with the company in an attempt to find a solution and unable to do that we had no option but to alert the community that these three products are problematic.”
