Renowned for her literacy achievements, Stacey was recently recognised with an excellence award for her outstanding service as a Junior MMC for community development in the City of Johannesburg Student Council 2022 and 2023.

Among her numerous accomplishments during her tenure was organising a groundbreaking women’s conference in 2022, marking a historic celebration of National Women’s Month. The conference’s theme, initiated by Stacey, focused on empowering women in STEM fields.

Radio Islam International delves into Fru’s experiences in a conversation with the founder of Stacey Fru Foundation and multi-award-winning author and child activist Stacey Fru.

Fru described her feelings as surprised as she did not anticipate receiving this award. However, the end commemorated Fru’s mandate, leaving her feeling proud to have served the city as a junior MMC.

“The feeling I got when they called up my name to receive this award was one of surprise. Yet again, as I reflect on my journey as a junior MMC, I see the work I had put in alongside my fellow junior councillors,” says Fru.

The development of communities has always been important to Fru, and at 16, she founded and headed an organisation. Fru’s many achievements include being an accomplished author with six books.
