Thandi Modise: Sorry We Messed Up, Zuma is Not Coming to #SONA2020

The Speaker of the National Assembly has told Radio Islam, there’s no formal communication from former President Jacob Zuma about whether he will be attending the state of the nation address.

This comes after Parliament stated that it erroneously tweeted that Zuma would be attending.

Questions were raised after the tweet because earlier this month, the former president’s lawyers told the Pietermaritzburg High Court that he could not attend a pre-trial conference for his corruption case because he was sick.

Speaking to Radio Islam, speaker Thandi Modise says parliament extends invitations all former presidents to attend Sona.

“We have been consistent in our message as parliament. Just given that, we think that we have messed up yesterday. We definitely have not had even as I speak confirmation from former President Zuma whether he’s coming or not.”

Modise has apologized for the error saying it was not parliaments intention to mislead or to be mischievous in anyway.
