The Africa Report: Update on Angola and Kenya post elections

By Neelam Rahim

In discussion with Radio Islam International on this week’s Africa Report, Dr Mustafa Mehta spoke about the elections in Angola and happenings in Kenya.

According to Dr Mehta, the MPLA ruling party won that election. The opposition UNITA party, the former rebel movement, is crying foul on lost elections.

He said it was known that the opposition would not win an election in Angola because of the history of cruelty that went with the civil war.

He added that President João Lourenco of the MPLA has done quite well.

“He is fighting corruption, and he has also ushered in very good reforms that are helping the country to move on a steady path.”

Meanwhile, in Kenya, Raila Odinga is challenging the outcome of the elections.

According to Dr Mehta, the decision is expected in a few weeks. The Kenyan people have given a message to the politicians. The pattern they attempted to set in Kenya with regard to leadership is a wrong one.

He said they were trying to move into a dynastic leadership.
