The 2022 World Cup, hosted by Qatar, has been like no other, and for the first time in history, the call for Palestinian freedom has been voiced loudly.  Palestine has not been forgotten by the people in the Arab world, who almost universally support the legitimate rights to self-determination and the return of the Palestinian refugees displaced.

FIFA banned the flag and fined clubs for allowing it over the years. It is a surprise that the fans in Qatar have gotten away with showing their solidarity and support for Palestine.  We have seen a group of British fans interviewed by an Israeli TV network shout out Free Palestine at the beginning of the interview. We are witnessing solidarity for Palestine on the international stage, with much-needed conversations taking place.

Palestinian fans have shared their joy that their country’s flag has been flown with pride at stadiums across Doha for the world to see.

Now, world leaders must push to end the conflict that has been raging for decades.
