Human Face

THE EYES

How many times is the word Eye mentioned In the Quran?

Times Mentioned: 39 times in 9 different Concepts

Eye of Disbelivers

Eye without comprehensive capacity: And surely, We have created many of the Jinn and mankind for Hell. They have hearts wherewith they understand not, and they have -eyes where with they see not, and they have ears wherewith they hear not (the truth). They are like cattle, nay even more astray; those! They are the heedless ones.

(7:179)

People of Nuh (A): And I do not say to you that with me are the treasures of Allah, nor that I know the Ghayb; nor do I say I am an angel, and I do not say of those whom your eyes look down upon that Allah will not bestow any good on them. Allah knows what is in their inner selves. In that case, I should, indeed be one of the wrongdoers.

(11:31)

Warning to Obliterate: And if it had been Our will, We would surely have wiped out their eyes, so that they would struggle for the path, how then would they see!

(36:66)

People of Lut (A): And they indeed sought to shame his guests. So, We blinded their eyes (saying), “Then taste you My torment and My warnings.

(54:37

Eye of the People in general

Ibrahim broke the Idols: They said: “Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may

testify.”

(21:61)

Allah Knows all: Allah knows the fraud of the eyes, and all that the breasts conceal. (40:19)

Son of Adam: Have We not made for him two eyes? (90:8)

Eye of the inhabitant of paradise

Trays of gold and cups will be passed round them; (there will be) therein all that their souls desire, and all that eyes could delight in and you will abide therein forever.

(43:71)

Allah’s greatness in the Eye

SHUTTERS

If your eyes are like windows, then your eyelids are like shutters which close to protect your eyes. When you blink, your eyelids spread tear fluid over your eyes, washing away germs and stopping your corneas from drying out. You also blink if an object suddenly moves close to your eyes. Your eyelids, which contain a tough sheet of cartilage also close to guard your eyeballs while you sleep.

Every time you blink and your eyelids cover your eyes, tears wash over the surface. The tears keep your eyes moist and help to keep them clean. You blink about 15 times a minute. Your eyelashes help to keep specks of dust and dirt out of your eyes.

THE RETINA

Its light-sensitive receptor cells are called rods and cones. The retina covers about 650mm2 and contains 137 million light-sensitive cells: 6 – 7 million cone cells for colour vision and 120 – 130 million rod cells for black and white vision in each eye. The cones are sensitive to bright light and to colour. The rods are sensitive to dim light but not to colour. This is why colours look indistinct in dark conditions. The cornea has no blood supply to give it oxygen. It gets its oxygen from the air.

There are only three primary colours. These are red, blue and yellow. We can recognise 10 000 000 shades of colour, all based on these three primary colours.
