If corruption continues unabated, the National Development Plan will fail. It demands an anti-corruption system that makes public servants accountable, protects whistle-blowers and closely monitors procurement. Efforts to eradicate corruption must include the private sector and individuals by increasing public awareness and improving access to information. While the NDP had been accepted by everyone from President Jacob Zuma to the broad public as an exciting roadmap to South Africa’s future, implementation starts at the bottom and should include ministers, public servants, unions and business.
