The Palestine Report

On the Palestine Report, Moulana Ebrahim Moosa discussed shocking developments in Gaza, highlighting two key stories that shed light on the current situation. The first is a controversial letter sent by eight Israeli members of the Knesset to Defense Minister Israel Katz, calling for an intensification of the siege on Gaza.

The MPs, representing a range of political parties, demanded extreme measures targeting essential infrastructure and human survival across the territory. These include the destruction of energy sources such as solar panels and generators, the eradication of food and water supplies, and the elimination of anyone moving without a white flag.

According to Moulana Moosa, the letter further calls for Israeli forces to conduct a “full cleansing” of what they described as “enemy nests,” effectively advocating for the complete decimation of life in the area. The demands have drawn significant criticism, with observers pointing to what they describe as clear evidence of genocidal intent. This follows prior warnings raised at international platforms, including the International Court of Justice (ICJ), about similar rhetoric and actions by Israeli politicians. Critics argue that these calls further amplify existing tensions and deepen the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

“What this particular letter is basically saying is that there should be, a toppling, of all the governance and military capabilities of Hamas. They’ve tried to do that, but they found that until this point in time, despite all the resources that the Israeli army has poured into the Gaza Strip, they seem to be still frustrated that when dealing with such a small territory, and an enemy, as this letter says, that does not possess tools or capabilities of a modern army, they’re still holding out,” he said.

Moulana Moosa highlighted the stark contrast between the suffering in Gaza and the luxury afforded to Israeli soldiers in the midst of ongoing conflict. An Israeli media report revealed that a destroyed desalination plant in northwest Gaza has been converted into a leisure resort for soldiers. “They don’t say exactly where this is situated, but they did kind of hint that it’s very close to Jabaliya, which is, facing the brunt of the Israeli assault at this moment in time,” he said.

Dubbed a “leisure village,” the facility provides a temporary escape for military companies of around 200 soldiers every 10 days. He pointed out that it offers indulgent amenities such as massages, popcorn and candy floss machines, Belgian waffles, barbecued meats, a PlayStation lounge, and even a “spiritual corner” with religious books. These comforts aim to mitigate the toll of long deployments, separation from family, and the pressures of the war.

Moulana Moosa revealed that Israeli human rights activist Orly Noy criticised the profound immorality of this setup, juxtaposing the soldiers’ luxurious respite against the extreme suffering they have inflicted on Gaza’s residents. She described the “jarring sights” of children scavenging for water, parents searching for loved ones under rubble, and mothers forced to feed infants with seawater-contaminated formula.

The irony is magnified by the fact that this leisure site sits atop the ruins of a desalination plant—symbolising the water crisis faced by Gazans. “This is what we’ve come to expect from the Israeli army, and the fact that they’ve needed a place, need a vent to take their minds off what is occurring in the Gaza Strip shows the absolute toll that this genocide is taking at them and eating basically away at their consciousness,” he said. He noted that this stark disparity reflects a broader pattern within Zionism, where the suffering of Palestinians is erased to serve its narrative. “But also, another way to look at it is Zionism has always had this extraordinary talent for training its adherence to see only what serves its purpose while erasing everything else from its side,” he added.

Regarding the potential for a ceasefire amid ongoing negotiations between Hamas and Israel, Moulana Moosa indicated that Hamas has expressed readiness for a prisoner exchange deal, agreeing to release 34 captives requested by Israel. However, it has set clear conditions, including an Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, a complete ceasefire, and the release of 1,000 Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails.

While Hamas has shown unprecedented flexibility due to the dire humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Israel has yet to respond to its demands. Tensions have risen in Israel, with public criticism of the government’s handling of prisoner negotiations, particularly following a video of an Israeli soldier in Hamas custody urging her government to act.

“But from the Hamas side, the rationale is we’ve paid such a big price as the Palestinian nation. We cannot allow this to pass and, Israelis to win through a deal, where they have not been able to win on the battlefield. So we’re not going to afford them a cheap victory,” he said.

Despite international shuttle diplomacy efforts, Moulana Moosa expressed skepticism, citing Israel’s history of using negotiations as a delay tactic to intensify military operations. “Very often, this is a cover for them just to expand or enter into a new phase of military operations. So, unfortunately, there isn’t too much optimism in my assessment here,” he added.

He highlighted continued U.S. support for Israel, including new arms packages, and the expansion of Israeli military campaigns in Gaza as indicators that a lasting ceasefire is unlikely.
