Trees for small gardens 

 

– September bells is an attractive spring flowering tree with sweetly scented creamy-white, bell-shaped clusters of flowers that are produced each September. September bells will grow into a rounded shrub or can be encouraged to growas  small as a tree.

 

– Tree Wisteria it grows to a height and spread of 7x4m. It has a slender erect shape with an attractive bark and bears masses of lilac-blue flowers.

 

– Karee – evergreen tree wiith an interesting trunk and branch growth patterns it has a height and spread of 7x5m it bears light green leaves and sprays of tiny greenish-yelloow flowers.

 

– Lavender tree- grows upto 6m high and 5 m wide .

it has an attractive bark that starts off smooth and white and becomes grey and flaky with age revealing patches of orange-brown bark beneath. New spring growth is tinged red, becoming glossy green in summber before turning autumn shades.

 

– White gardenia – everygreen tree grows to 2.5m high and 1.5 m wide. it bears highly freagrant white flowers in midsummer. the foliage is shiny and crinkled.

 

– Forest Bushwillow- 7×4 m in hieght it bears beautiful autmn folaige and its dense canopy makes it a great shade tree.

 

– Wide pear – a waterwise tree up to 6 m high bears clusters of white flowers in spring.

September is a glorious month in the garden.

plant up a bed of spring flowers

plain or frilly leafed lettuces in shades of green and red are useful as temporary fillers in the front of a border. Cabbages can also be used in a flower border.

Apply a general fertilser and a layer of compost to all beds.
