Renewal of the Heart and Soul
Phase 5 – Transformation: Becoming Who Allah Loves
Walking Forward with a Renewed Heart and Soul
My dear brothers and sisters, this is it. The final day of Ramadhan. In a few minutes, the sun will set, and this blessed month will be behind us. The month of mercy, forgiveness, and freedom from the Fire has come to its end.
There is grief in every believer’s heart today. We are sad to see this guest depart. We are sad to leave the nights of prayer, the closeness we felt, the peace that enveloped us. But there is also something else: resolve. Resolve to carry forward what we have built. Resolve to protect the renewal that has taken root in our hearts.
As we complete our journey together, we speak about Walking Forward with a Renewed Heart and Soul.
Where We Have Been
Look back at the journey. It has been long and deep:
We began with renewing the heart — sincerity, small deeds with big hearts, alignment with Allah’s pleasure, the Quran as our companion, dhikr as our peace.
We examined the signs of life — the difference between a living heart and a sleeping heart, and the practice of muhasabah.
We entered the cleansing of the soul — diagnosing the sicknesses of the heart, repenting sincerely, forgiving others, releasing grudges, detaching from the dunya, and letting go.
We moved to strengthening the heart — building patience, gratitude, trust, consistency, good character, and becoming a mercy to others.
And finally, we experienced transformation — seeking Laylatul Qadr, asking for a sound heart, giving generously, and now preparing to emerge from Ramadhan renewed.
This has not been a casual journey. It has been the work of a lifetime condensed into thirty days. And now, the question is: What comes next?
You Are Not the Same Person
The most important truth you must carry forward is this: You are not the same person who entered Ramadhan. That person, with their old habits, old attachments, old sins — that person has been washed, purified, renewed. You are someone new.
A renewed heart is not a heart that never sins. It is a heart that sins and immediately returns to its Lord. It is a heart that falls and gets back up. It is a heart that stumbles but keeps walking toward Allah.
A renewed soul is not a soul that never struggles. It is a soul that struggles and keeps striving. It is a soul that feels the weight of this world but longs for the next. It is a soul that has tasted the sweetness of faith and will not settle for less.
How to Walk Forward
Walking forward with a renewed heart requires three things:
- Consistency. Choose a few deeds and stick to them. The Prophet ﷺ said:
“أَحَبُّ الْأَعْمَالِ إِلَى اللَّهِ أَدْوَمُهَا وَإِنْ قَلَّ”
“The most beloved deeds to Allah are the most consistent, even if they are small.” (Bukhari & Muslim)
One page of Quran daily. Two rak’ah of night prayer. Morning and evening adhkar. Fasting Mondays and Thursdays. These small, consistent acts will keep your heart alive.
- Vigilance. Shaytan does not give up. He waited through Ramadhan, and now he is released. Be on guard. Protect your prayers. Protect your tongue. Protect your gaze. Protect your heart. But vigilance means watching the doors of your heart and shutting them before Shaytan enters.
- Continuous Turning. The key to a renewed heart is constant turning back to Allah. When you sin, turn back. When you forget, turn back. When you stray, turn back. He is al-Tawwāb — the One who constantly accepts repentance. He loves when you return to Him.
The Six Days of Shawwal
Tomorrow, you have an opportunity to extend the spirit of Ramadhan. The Prophet ﷺ said:
“مَنْ صَامَ رَمَضَانَ ثُمَّ أَتْبَعَهُ سِتًّا مِنْ شَوَّالٍ كَانَ كَصِيَامِ الدَّهْرِ”
“Whoever fasts Ramadhan and follows it with six days of Shawwal, it is as if he fasted the entire year.” (Muslim)
Do not miss this gift. Fast them starting from tomorrow or the next day. Let them be the bridge that carries you from Ramadhan into the rest of the year.
Concluding Note on the Theme
My dear brothers and sisters, our theme throughout this blessed month has been renewal of the heart and soul. We have sought it, worked for it, prayed for it. And now, as Ramadhan departs, we ask: Has it happened?
The answer lies not in how you feel today, but in how you live tomorrow. Renewal is not a feeling; it is a direction. It is a heart that now knows where it is going. It is a soul that has found its path. It is a life that is now oriented toward Allah.
Carry this renewal forward. Protect it. Nurture it. Let it grow.
Steadfastness. This is the key. This is what carries renewal forward. This is what leads to Jannah.
May Allah accept from us all, renew our hearts, and allow us to witness many more Ramadhans in faith and good health. Ameen.
Eid Mubarak to you and your loved ones.
