Former Minister of Basic Education Enver Surty spoke to Radio Islam International earlier today, explaining why South African Muslims should still lend their support to the African National Congress (ANC).

Here are the key points Surty made:

  • Despite the numerous challenges facing South Africa, the ANC has led South Africa extremely well on its democratic journey
  • The Muslim community has benefited far more than they have suffered in the last 30 years
  • On ANC’s support for Palestine, Surty says the ANC’s stance against Israel demonstrates moral courage and justice, and is likely to derail the trend of Muslim votes shifting to other parties like the DA
  • Surty highlights the ANC’s significant achievements in sectors like education and nutrition, despite ongoing corruption issue, and says efforts to address corruption and improve service delivery are ongoing
