World Orphans Day

What is World Orphans Day & Significance?

Tragically, millions of children all over the globe have become orphaned for many reasons: war, famine, displacement, disease or poverty. To make sure that they are not forgotten, once a year there is a special day dedicated just to them: World Orphans Day, which falls on the second Monday of each November.

The prime purpose of World Orphans Day is to raise awareness and provide a common platform for orphans and underprivileged children related activities all over the world.

Millions of young children face problems because one or both of their parents are no longer in this world. It is important for the community to make arrangements for their education, health, shelter, food, and social well-being. World Orphans Day is the perfect opportunity for well-meaning and socially responsible to show that they stand with orphans in their time of need.

ORPHANS IN PALESTINE

Relating to a current day example, Innocent people in Gaza have paid a terrible price for the years of war and conflict that surround them, but none have suffered quite like orphans in Palestine. The unrest in Gaza has made life hard for these children. Many of them have become orphans, losing one or both of their parents, because of the violence that has invaded their lives.

Humanitarian services report state There are more than 22,000 orphans living in Palestine, and some humanitarian services report more than 30 000 Children have became orphans over the pass few decades (report by SKT welfare). They are all facing unimaginable risks to their safety and the recent escalation has left thousands of widows in its wake. All of whom have difficult decisions to make as they don’t know how to support their orphan children.

Some previous Old Reports of Palestinian Orphans

● “The psychological situation for a kid whose family was killed, who went to buy something and came home to find his family dead – this is the worst you can see,” Meqbin said, noting many orphans struggle with deep-seated psychological issues and crippling anxiety.

“They don’t sleep. They’re always scared,” Meqbin says. “We spend as much time as possible with them so they can cope.”

● Manal Abu Taiema, 11, from Khan Younis, also vividly recalls her father’s death. She remembers him calling out: “Don’t get close to the windows.” Moments later, two missiles hit their home.

“One fell on my cousin and shattered him into pieces. One fell on my father,” Abu Taiema says, her voice rasping, her mannerisms those of a much older woman. “It opened my father’s head

HISTORY OF WORLD ORPHANS DAYLIGHT & IMPORTANCE

The world’s first orphanage was established by the Romans in 400 A.D. The main reason for opening an orphanage was to provide food, shelter, and other health care needs to children who had lost their parents and don’t have any caregivers to look after them.

Many orphans around the world are exploited as cheap labor when they are forced to fend for themselves. This lifestyle not only robs these children of their childhoods, but also limits their potential to grow and reach for a brighter future. For these children, time is running out. Millions of street children or urchins came out from these orphans and some times from extreme poverty. Although some children are with their families, they are not getting the facilities of education and proper treatment to them. Sometimes they are exploited by their close relatives and greedy guardians.

As mentioned before, anything you can do to help could make a world of a difference to an impoverished orphan, so take some time to figure out what you can do and get to it! You could, for example, organize an event to raise money. There is also the possibility to sponsor an individual child in an orphanage of your choice in a particularly poor part of the world or to invest in education programs that aim to give orphans a new start in life. There are many ways to help orphans and this annual day aims to bring those ideas to as wide an audience as possible.

Quotes

“In the hearts of orphans, resilience blooms, as they prove that love can be found in unexpected places.”

“Every orphan has a story, and within each tale lies the testament of their courage to overcome adversity and find hope.”

“Orphans teach us the profound lesson that family is not solely defined by blood, but by the bonds of love and compassion.”

“From the shadows of adversity, orphans emerge as beacons of strength, proving that the human spirit can triumph over even the darkest of circumstances.”

“The measure of a society is how it cares for its orphans, for in their well-being lies the true reflection of humanity.”

“Orphans are not defined by what they lack but by the strength they find within themselves to rise above challenges and shape their destinies.”

“In the tapestry of life, orphans weave threads of resilience, turning adversity into a testament of their unyielding spirit.”
