Mobile in Africa (MIA), the distributer of Xiaomi mobiles devices has announced that Vodacom will be selling its smartphones including the Mi and Redmi devices on contract from November.
When the Xiaomi was launched in South Africa in 2015, by Mobile in Africa it partnered with mobile operator MTN.
CEO of Mobile in Africa, RJ Van Spaandonk told My Broadband, while MTN did not take on Xiaomi’s newer devices, it secured a deal with Afrihost to offer its smartphones with Afrihost mobile packages.
“[Now] Vodacom is starting to throw its weight behind the Xiaomi brand,”
Van Spaandonk says Vodacom has indicated it wants to offer the full range of Xiaomi devices MIA brings into the country.
“South Africans will be able to get really affordable contracts on Xiaomi devices from next month.”
Van Spaandonk says contract prices would be announced once the details with Vodacom have been finalised.
