The leader of the Xiluva political party has called on Gauteng police commissioner Lieutenant Elias Mawela to intensify police efforts to get rid of the so-called “Boko Haram” gang in Tshwane.
On the back of the election this year, one of the key features of the election is neighbourhood Safety. Gangs run rampant in many suburbs, including the Cape Flats, Tshwane and Kwa-Zulu Natal.
The ongoing presence of the Boko-Haram gang has led to a reign of terror in townships and has instilled a
sense of terror in the local communities, particularly those residing in Heatherly flats in
Nellmapius Ext 22, for years.
“The most alarming aspect of their actions is their targeting of vulnerable individuals,
such as women and people with disabilities. The continued presence of this gang has left
the affected communities living in constant fear and uncertainty, highlighting the urgent
need for increased police presence and intervention in these areas,” Xiluva stated.
Speaking to Radio Islam International, the leader of the Xiluva party, Bongani Baloyi appeals to the Gauteng Police Commissioner to intensify all efforts to arrest these individuals and get them off the streets of Gauteng.
Baloyis said that intelligence received from the ground highlights that the gang’s operation is well coordinated and spreads a bigger footprint than the Nellmapius area.
“People are telling us that these individuals are seen close to some police offices and there is a perception that police might be aiding and abetting the Boko Haram gang,” says Baloyi.
Furthermore, Xiluva stated, “This is an illegal operation that must be dealt with as such. Law enforcement agencies should prioritize the apprehension of these thugs and institute harsh penalties to deter criminal activities in the areas.”
