As our nation commemorates the 40th anniversary of the student’s uprising of June 16, 1976.
I took a look at the timeline and the events which led up to the Student Uprising that changed the future of South Africa forever.
The student-led protests in Soweto, known as the Soweto Uprising, claimed about 23 lives in Soweto alone on the day of the march.
The protests began in Soweto schools and spread across the country.
The unrest was a response to the introduction of Afrikaans as the medium of instruction.
