Strength in Difficult times – Part 3

We all have to go through tough times and when we focus on our religion we see that the Quranic verses about strength in hard and tough times are the ultimate source of inspiration in the time of adversity.

The Holy Quran is the book of divine wisdom. It’s the light that shows us the right path when you are lost and hopeless, and left alone in a dark and scary place from where you hardly have any hope of getting out from.

You can easily get demotivated once things are not going your way.

Everyone has a point in life, where disappointment and dejection take over you completely and you start questioning not only your own decisions but you even very dangerously start questioning Allah’s justice. At that point, what’s the best way to keep going and overcome that miserable phase of your life?

Definitely, it’s your faith in the Creator which gives you the power and strength to face those hard times and stand firm.

To rekindle that faith, let’s look at some of the most inspirational Quranic verses about strength in hard times.
لَا يُكَلِّفُ ٱللَّهُ نَفْسًا إِلَّا وُسْعَهَا
Allah does not burden any human being with more than he can bear. [Al Baqarah 2: 286]

The first thing to understand is Allah’s justice. This verse describes that Allah never burdens anyone beyond their capacity.

If you are in a state of difficulty or hardship, know that Allah has made you powerful enough to endure that pain.

Allah has made you strong enough to face and tackle the challenges and difficult times in life.

Once you remember this verse, your confidence in Allah’s justice is reaffirmed.

This will eventually lead you to find more inner strength and confidence that no mountain can displace you from your position.
That’s the inner strength of a true believer who remembers Allah in difficult times.

The Second Ayah about strength in hard times.
أَحَسِبَ ٱلنَّاسُ أَن يُتْرَكُوٓا۟ أَن يَقُولُوٓا۟ ءَامَنَّا وَهُمْ لَا يُفْتَنُونَ
“Do the people think that they will be left to say, ‘We believe’ and they will not be tested?” [Al Ankabut 29: 2]

The believers, especially the prophets AS and pious R, have to go through many a trials in this world. However, they always come out victorious in the end. These trials and tribulations sometimes come as a result of enmity of the infidels and sinners by way of afflictions, as have been experienced by the Holy Prophet ﷺ and many other prophets AS, and at times in the form of diseases, as was experienced by Sayyidina Ayyub AS. And for others many of these trial types are combined together.

Although the background under which this verse was revealed, according to many narrations, was the harassment faced by the companions of the Holy Prophet ﷺ from the disbelievers at the time of Hijrah, but otherwise its message is common to all times. The sense is that the pious, saints and scholars R will face the trials and tribulations in all times.

Once you claim to be a believer, you ought to be tested. These tests would come in the form of tough times in your life.
Allah will test you through several ways as mentioned in Surah Al-Baqarah like financial problems, family issues, professional life difficulties, etc.

While going through these tough times and still keeping the faith is the ultimate success for a true believer.

Allah tests you with adversity to make you stronger. This verse is actually a filter among believers.

It differentiates the true believers from the ones who just merely claim and do nothing. Both shall be tested but only the true believers come out victorious.

So, whenever you are going through a difficult time, ask yourself, which side do you want to be on?

The true believers or the ones with mere claims? Surely, this thought will give you enough strength to stand tall and overcome your challenges in life.
