A Heart Connected to Allah – Part 15

Renewal of the Heart and Soul

Phase 2 – Awakening the Heart: From Routine to Purpose

A Heart Connected to Allah – The Destination of Renewal

Alhamdulillah we have reached a significant moment in our journey. Throughout this blessed month, we have spoken about the tools of renewal: Sincerity that purifies, Small Deeds done with a big heart, Alignment with Allah’s pleasure, the Quran as our companion, and Remembrance as the path to peace. But today, we ask: What is the destination of all this work? What is the result of a truly renewed heart?

The answer is simple yet profound: A Heart Connected to Allah.

This is the goal of every believer. Not just a heart that performs rituals, but a heart that is constantly, intimately, and unbreakably connected to its Creator. A heart that beats in sync with His commands. A heart that turns to Him in every moment, whether in ease or hardship.

Allah ﷻ describes the believers with a beautiful quality:

“الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَتَطْمَئِنُّ قُلُوبُهُم بِذِكْرِ اللَّهِ”

“Those who have believed and whose hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allah.” (Surah Ar-Ra’d, 13: 28)

But what does a “connected heart” actually look like in daily life?

  1. A Connected Heart Turns to Allah First.

When something good happens, the connected heart immediately says Alhamdulillah. When something bad happens, it says Innā lillāhi wa innā ilayhi rāji’ūn. When faced with a decision, it seeks Allah’s guidance through Istikhārah. When it sins, it rushes to repentance without delay. Allah is not a last resort; He is the first resort. The Prophet ﷺ taught us this in times of distress. He would say:

“يَا حَيُّ يَا قَيُّومُ بِرَحْمَتِكَ أَسْتَغِيثُ”

“O Ever-Living, O Self-Sustaining, by Your mercy I seek assistance.” (Tirmidhi)

The connected heart knows where to turn when the storms of life hit.

  1. A Connected Heart Feels the Pain of Disconnection.

When you are truly connected to someone, you miss them when you are apart. The same is true with Allah. A heart connected to Allah feels genuine discomfort when it misses Fajr, when it goes a day without Quran, when its tongue is dry from lack of dhikr. There is a restlessness that only submission can cure. The Prophet ﷺ described the one who remembers Allah and the one who does not as the living and the dead. The connected heart is alive; it feels. The disconnected heart is numb.

  1. A Connected Heart Finds Allah in Everything.

The ultimate sign of a connected heart is that it sees Allah’s signs everywhere. In the rising of the sun, it sees His mercy. In the rain, it sees His provision. In a trial, it sees His wisdom. In a blessing, it sees His love. The believer with a connected heart lives in a constant state of awareness. Allah says:

“سَنُرِيهِمْ آيَاتِنَا فِي الْآفَاقِ وَفِي أَنفُسِهِمْ حَتَّىٰ يَتَبَيَّنَ لَهُمْ أَنَّهُ الْحَقُّ”

“We will show them Our signs in the horizons and within themselves until it becomes clear to them that it is the truth.” (Surah Fussilat, 41: 53)

The connected heart doesn’t need to search for Allah; it recognizes Him in every moment.

So as we go through the motions, and as this beautiful month continues, we must ask ourselves the hardest question: Has my heart connected to Allah? Have I tasted the sweetness of faith? Have I experienced the peace that comes from true submission?

The Prophet ﷺ described the sweetness of a connected heart:

“ثَلَاثٌ مَنْ كُنَّ فِيهِ وَجَدَ حَلَاوَةَ الْإِيمَانِ…”

“There are three qualities, whoever has them will taste the sweetness of faith…” (Bukhari & Muslim)

He then mentioned loving Allah and His Messenger ﷺ above all else, loving someone only for Allah, and hating to return to disbelief as much as one would hate to be thrown into the fire. This is the connected heart. It tastes sweetness because it is attached to the source of all sweetness.

Ramadhan is our training ground. The fasts, the prayers, the Quran, the charity — all of it was designed to sever our attachments to the dunya and attach us firmly to Allah. Do not let the end of Ramadhan be the end of this connection. Let it be the beginning.

Carry this heart with you. Protect it. Nourish it with daily Quran. Hydrate it with constant dhikr. Guard it from the rust of sin. And know that a heart connected to Allah is never alone, never hopeless, and never lost.

May Allah grant us hearts that are connected to Him, alive with His remembrance, and worthy of His closeness. Ameen.
