The Sudan crisis for which there was a 7-day ceasefire in place ended, and both sides began attacks again.

Regarding the Zimbabwe elections, which will take place in August, Ruhanya says there have been challenges as the voter’s roll is only known to the ruling party. Opposition parties accuse the Electoral Committee of being in cahoots with Zanu PF to deny voter roll access.

On the diplomatic war between South Africa and the US is ongoing, Ruhanya says that South Africa is a country that supports human rights born out of its political struggle and thus has the right as a sovereign right to choose its allies. However, he says South Africa should not support Russia as it violates the UN Charter and fundamental civil and political rights that South Africa upholds.

Authoritarian resurgence through coups is happening in Africa, and Ruhanya says there is backsliding in terms of democratic governance.
