Thandi Smith, Head of Programmes at Media Monitoring Africa, highlighted the death of a journalist in conflict-stricken Cameroon and the arrest of another in Ethiopia, which pointed to the dangers that journalists face in Africa, as this came on the back of the Press Freedom Index being released recently by Reporters With Borders.

The coronation of King Charles III made headlines last weekend; however, the stories calling for the return of the Star of Africa diamond are interesting.

As the Sudan war dominates headlines, journalists are coming under fire and are fleeing the country. This leads to a lack of reporting and highlights the need to protect journalists in conflict areas.
